Why Saturday is potentially historic for LSU football recruiting
By John Fye
Bryce Underwood will announce where he intends to play college football on Saturday evening. The 6-3, 205-pound quarterback has offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, and Penn State. However, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine landed on LSU football as the favorite to gain Underwood’s commitment on Friday.
Kelly and his staff have heavily recruited Underwood throughout 2023. The top prospect in the 2025 class has also completed multiple visits to Baton Rouge, including an early March visit with his family. Indeed, we viewed LSU football as a legitimate landing spot for Underwood after his father spoke highly of their trip to Death Valley.
Michigan was the early favorite to land Underwood and remains well in the mix for his commitment. But of course, Underwood lives and goes to high school in Michigan, thus giving the Wolverines somewhat of a home-field advantage. However, the geography does not seem to matter as LSU football is poised to gain their highest-rated recruit since Ryan Perriloux.
LSU football fans must not underestimate what Bryce Underwood would bring the Baton Rouge in 2025. We view the quarterback as a generational talent with the potential to put the Tigers into the top rung of contenders on the college football ladder.
Just imagine a world in which LSU football is viewed in the same light as the current Alabama and Georgia programs. Such is Kelly’s vision for his current employer.
Kelly’s 2025 class currently ranks 2nd and includes the No. 1 receiver, Dakorien Moore, and the No. 1 running back, Harlem Moore. Indeed, adding the No. 1 quarterback will push the Tigers to the top of the recruiting rankings and project the best class in LSU football history.
But of course, we need Underwood to make his commitment to LSU official at 5 p.m. ET. We also need the 2025 studs committed to playing football in Baton Rouge to maintain such throughout 2024.
