On Saturday, the LSU Basketball team was once again looking for its first ranked win as the Tigers took on the 24th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. This game quickly evolved into Cam Carter Vs Josh Hubbard as the two couldn't miss. For LSU, this game quickly became the same story in a different game as LSU went from leading at half to trailing rather quickly.
In the first half, the teams battled back and forth trading leads but, the Tigers were able to take a two point lead into the half. As Cam Carter started with back to back three pointers it was clear he had his A-Game scoring 18 first half points on 7-9 shooting from the field and 4-6 shooting from three. The reason LSU couldn't take a much bigger lead into the half was the fact that the rest of the team went 1-14 from three.
In the second half, Mississippi State looked like the team in control picking up a 13 point lead with just six minutes left in the game. The Tigers then started to chip away at the lead but, Mississippi State's defense did a great job taking away the three and it led to the Bulldogs closing the game out.
The Tigers had no answer all game for Josh Hubbard who scored 31 points on 9/17 shooting from the field while knocking down all 10 of his attempts at the free throw. LSU was without Corey Chest this game and Mississippi State attacked LSU inside scoring 40 points in the paint. The Bulldogs were excellant in transition as well outscoring LSU 18-3 on the fast break.
For LSU, Cam Carter gave the Tigers everything you could've asked for and they still fell short as Carter scored 23 points on 9-16 shooting while grabbing a pair of boards and assisting on two makes. Takeaway Cam Carter and the Tigers had nothing going for them today as the rest of the team went 16-48 from the field and 4 for 26 from three which will never get the job done against Mississippi State.
The LSU Tigers are back in action next week as they'll wrap up the regular season with games against Kentucky and Texas A&M next week.
