The 5 Biggest Winners and Losers of Week 10 in College Football
Winner - SMU Mustangs
As SMU picked up its biggest win of the season thus far, they now have a serious shot at winning the ACC and making the College Football Playoff. On Saturday Night, the Mustangs shut down Eli Holstein and Pitt's passing attack while holding the rushing attack to just 103 yards. On offense, Kevin Jennings and Brashard Smith were dominant as SMU's offense scored 48 points.
As Clemson took its first loss in the Conference while SMU handed Pitt its first loss of the season, the Mustangs now control their own path to the ACC Championship. This team should win its three remaining games and get a crack at Miami in the ACC Championship a game they could win given how Miami's defense has looked.
Loser - Hugh Freeze
Every week gets worse and worse for the Auburn Tigers in a season where many expected they could outperform expectations. On Saturday, Auburn lost 17-7 against Vanderbilt as the offense once again couldn't do anything. Hugh Freeze is now 0-3 against Diego Pavia with two of those losses coming while at Auburn. The Tigers are now 3-6 on the season and 1-5 in SEC Play.
To even reach the .500 mark qualifying for a bowl game the Tigers will need to run the table which would require beating Texas A&M and Alabama. Auburn hired Freeze to replace Bryan Harsin who went 9-12 at Auburn, the sad part is Hugh Freeze is now 9-13 in his tenure at Auburn.
In the second half, star running back Jarquez Hunter carried the ball twice and after the game Hugh Freeze threw him under the bus saying he looked gassed. Freeze also made a questionable coaching decision calling a useless timeout right before the two-minute timeout which he deserves a ton of blame for. This season has been a disaster for Auburn and the fanbase is left wondering if he's the right guy for the job.
