The Cincinnati Bengals are wasting an MVP Season from Joe Burrow
On Sunday Night Football, the Bengals started the game out looking like they were ready to put the final nail in their season as they found themselves in a 21-point hole in the third quarter. Things quickly started to change as Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase got back on the same page they were against the Ravens last week when they connected for three scores.
Burrow capped off an 11 play drive by finding Ja'Marr Chase for a four yard score cutting the deficit down to 14 points. He'd then find Tee Higgins for a 42-yard score to cut the deficit down to 7 points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bengals would then tie the game capping off a 7 play 71 yard drive with a 17 yard pass to Ja'Marr Chase.
The teams would then go back and fourth exchanging punts before the Chargers got the ball back with 45 seconds left in the game. The Bengals defense allowed the Chargers to go right down the field scoring in 27 seconds leaving the offense next to no time to pull off a Hail Mary.
The loss now drops the Bengals to 4-7 on the season giving them next to no chance at making the Playoffs. The Bengals defense has regressed but, they've left a ton of points on the field in close games due to missed field goals.
On the season, Joe Burrow has passed for 3,028 yards and 27 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions. If the Bengals had a better record, Joe Burrow would likely be the front runner for the MVP, instead he likely won't receive any consideration because of his team's record.
The Bengals need to improve the defense heading into 2025
The Bengals have plenty of great pieces on this roster including the league leader in passing yards, receiving yards, and in sacks. The Bengals aren't missing top end talent but, they're missing some reliable pieces around the edges. The AFC North is loaded from top to bottom and if the Bengals don't make the changes needed this offseason, the Bengals will be headed toward another wasted year.
