The LSU Tigers are hungry to get back in the win column this week after suffering their first loss of the season to Ole Miss two weeks ago. Brian Kelly's squad is set to host South Carolina on Saturday night, and LSU is looking to defeat the the Gamecocks for the 10th consecutive time. LSU had a lot of work to do over the bye week, and fans are eager to see what adjustments were made with the extra prep time.
The Gamecocks are also coming off a bye, so they will have had ample time to prepare as well. But, even with the extra rest for South Carolina, there is one area that LSU should stay aggressive in attacking the Gamecocks.
South Carolina lacks depth in this key area
South Carolina's offensive line has struggled to hold up so far in 2025. The Gamecocks have allowed 15 sacks through five games, which ranks 117th in the country. They haven't been able to give LaNorris Sellers time to operate, and the running game has been non-existent. In fact, South Carolina's 99.8 rushing yards per game makes them the only team in the SEC to average less than 100 rushing yards per game so far this season.
It doesn't help that the Gamecock offensive line is banged up. On the South Carolina availability report for Saturday, Markee Anderson has been officially ruled out, while both Nolan Hay and Cason Henry are listed as doubtful. For a group that has already dealt with a plethora of struggles this season, being short-handed gives the Gamecocks a lot more reason to worry ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Tigers.
The LSU defense needs to be aggressive against the Gamecocks
Given LSU's elite talent in the secondary, the Tigers can afford to dial up some pressure against the Gamecocks. Players like Mansoor Delane, AJ Haulcy, DJ Pickett, and PJ Woodland have shown they are capable of holding things down on the back end. That should open up Blake Baker's game plan to bring extra pressure in an effort to get after Sellers.
Sellers is mobile, but his rushing ability has been limited by poor offensive line play this season. His passing prowess has also been inconsistent. He's thrown just four touchdown passes through five games, and has totaled 210 yards or less in all but one game. LSU has 11 sacks through five games, and this could be the game where the Tigers pack the box and bring some extra pressure.
LSU is currently favored by 8.5 points over South Carolina. Kick-off is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on Saturday night in Death Valley.
