From the minute Lane Kiffin was hired at LSU, Tiger fans became excited with the possibilities of LSU's offense in 2026. That all starts with getting the right quarterback, something Kiffin is still in the process of doing as he navigates LSU through the transfer portal.
LSU misses out on Brendan Sorsby, but Lane Kiffin has a new plan in place
When Kiffin was hired, LSU fans wondered if he would ty to bring Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss with him to Baton Rouge. Kiffin recruited Chambliss from division II Ferris State, and developed him into one of the best QBs in the country this season. However, a Kiffin/Chambliss reunion at LSU now seems extremely unlikely.
Trinidad Chambliss to return to Ole Miss if granted 6th year of eligibility
According to Ross Dellenger, Chambliss has agreed to a new deal to return to Ole Miss - so long as he has his eligibility waiver granted by the NCAA. Chambliss is seeking a 6th year of eligibility, and at this time, the timeline for a decision from the NCAA is known and it remains unclear if Chambliss will be allowed to play for the Rebels in 2026.

School officials are hoping this week for a resolution to the waiver seeking a 6th year. His dad told us that he’s "confident."
Chambliss emerged into a star in 2025. He began the season as the backup to Austin Simmons, but an injury to Simmons thrust Chambliss into the starting role. He took advantage of the opportunity.
Since taking over as Ole Miss' QB1 on September 13 against Arkansas, Chambliss has lost just one game. He led Ole Miss to its best season in program history, and now has the Rebels playing in the CFP Semifinal against Miami (FL) on Thursday. On the season, he's racked up 3,660 yards and 21 touchdowns with just 3 interceptions. He's also added 520 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.
LSU fans are quite familiar with Chambliss' skill set, as he went wild against the Tigers back on September 27 in Oxford. The Rebel QB led the Ole Miss offense to 484 total yards, accounting for all but 99 of them. He threw for 314 yards and a touchdown while also adding 71 yards on 14 carries in Ole Miss' 24-19 victory over LSU.
Chambliss would have been a great fit in Kiffin's offense at LSU, but now it appears that dream is no longer. LSU already missed out on Brendan Sorsby, but is now set to host Sam Leavitt on Monday. Tiger fans are eager who Kiffin lands to be his QB1.
