Well, that didn't take long. Ed Orgeron has hit the trail hard after he was hired as the special assistant to recruiting and the defense by Lane Kiffin on May 21.
Zack Nagy of 247Sports recently took to X with a video of Orgeron spending some one-on-one time with Texas Tech commit Jalen Brewster, who is currently the No. 1 recruit in the country and also being courted by Florida.
In the video, Orgeron and Brewster go through a drill together. In a separate video within the same post, Orgeron sends a compelling message to a large crowd of recruits. Here's a look at both of those moments.
Lane Kiffin and the #LSU Tigers are already reaping the benefits of having Ed Orgeron back on staff.

Orgeron is getting face-time with the No. 1 overall prospect in America as he eyes Texas Tech commit Jalen Brewster.

Ed Orgeron and LSU have the chance to send a huge message by landing Jalen Brewster
Orgeron and Kiffin have already had the chance to meet with a number of top-notch prospects on visits, but someone like Brewster is on a whole other level, with no other prospect for the Class of 2027 ranking more highly than him in 247Sports' book.
Where he stands in the 247Sports composite rankings is pretty comparable. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound defensive lineman out of Cedar Hill High School (Cedar Hill, Tx.) stacks up there as the top player at his position in his class, the second-best prospect in the state of Texas, and the No. 6 overall prospect with all positions considered, in America.
He's versatile, having played on both sides of the ball, also serving as a short-yardage ball carrier for the offense. Here's a look at some of the scouting report on Brewster from Gabe Brooks of 247Sports, who pinned Brewster as a potential "future bona fide NFL Draft candidate."
- Strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism
- Not overly long, but broad-trunked and powerfully built
- Flashes sudden redirection that fosters playmaking in the trenches
- Experienced inside and in a two-point edge alignment
- Heavy-handed and stack-and-shed strong
- Also has gotten offensive touches as a jumbo wildcat option
- Possesses a strong football pedigree
- May prove more of a disrupter than gap-minder; junior season shows consistent penetrating ability, including rush threat from 3-tech and 4i alignments.
While Texas Tech is a rising program that would allow Brewster to stay in his own backyard, LSU's prestige and championship-winning history may ultimately prove more tempting to him. On top of that, Kiffin and Orgeron are considered among the top recruiters in the nation, with a history of success in the transfer portal and in elevating teams overall.
Brewster originally committed to the Red Raiders on October 4, 2025, and has yet to budge off of that pledge. That does not mean, however, that LSU and a number of other programs have been deterred from pursuing him.
Whether or not that interest is enough to make him change his mind remains to be seen.
