The emergence of Bradyn Swinson is another mark against Matt House

This season, LSU's defense is being called by a different coordinator as Blake Baker was brought in to replace Matt House. In House's time at LSU, the defenses never met the LSU standard especially in 2023 when LSU couldn't stop a nosebleed.

There were some people defending House saying that the players on the defense were the reason for LSU's struggles. Nonetheless, LSU wasted what was likely the Nation's best offense with a Heisman quarterback, two first round receivers, and an elite offensive line because the defense was one of the worst in the country.

One of the areas LSU struggled in was getting after the passer as Harold Perkins' production dropped while the rest of the defense couldn't get any pressure. One of the players that should've gotten more playing time was edge rusher Bradyn Swinson.

In 2023, Swinson started just one game for LSU yet, he led the team with nine quarterback hurries which shows that he should've started.

Matt House instead chose to start players who were less effective and it showed in the on-field results. Now, the Tigers are 5-1 and Bradyn Swinson has a team high seven sacks which ranks fifth nationally. Swinson through six games is on pace to beat Arden Key's LSU single season record of 12 sacks.

Brian Kelly's biggest flaw was how he built his defensive staff

When Brian Kelly took over at LSU there were solid coaches on the defensive staff that he should've pushed to keep or hire as his defensive coordinator. Blake Baker is a great example of someone who wasn't retained which led to LSU paying him the biggest salary for a defensive coordinator just to comeback. At the end of the day, if Brian Kelly kept coaches like Baker and Corey Raymond on the staff the defenses would've been much better over the past few seasons.
