The Five Best Performances from the LSU Football teams win over Arkansas
On Saturday night, LSU played one of its best games of the season and while it wasn't a flashy win it was a game where LSU played complimentary football. The Tigers got key contributions in every phase of the game which is something the Tigers will need when it gets into its tougher games on the schedule down the stretch. Here are the five players we feel had the best performances of this weekend.
Major Burns - Safety
At the start of the season, Major Burns was struggling and it looked like LSU may need to move him to the bench. Burns has quickly made up for his rough start to the season with his play as he's had great games in back-to-back weeks. On Saturday night, Burns was playing with his hair on fire making physical plays at the line of scrimmage and in coverage. Burns' six tackles finished third on the team while he added a pass defense and a fumble recovery.
Damian Ramos - Kicker
The players on special teams never get the love they deserve when they play well but, they’re the first ones to get blame when they play poorly. When LSU couldn't finish off drives with touchdowns, Damian Ramos was incredible making field goals of 33, 33, 47, and 48 yards while nailing a pair of extra points. If Ramos didn't hit his deep field goal attempts in this game, LSU could've been in trouble however, Ramos was massive for LSU and got the game ball from Brian Kelly.
CJ Daniels - Wide Receiver
At the start of the week, it looked like LSU may not have had CJ Daniels this week as the transfer receiver missed the game last weekend with a knee injury. This weekend, we got a glimpse into how important CJ Daniels is to the offense as he kept the Tigers in front of the sticks all night long. Daniels led the team in receiving with 86 yards on seven catches. Daniels did reaggravate his knee injury so his status for next weekend may be in jeopardy but, Daniels is starting to show the ability he showed at Liberty for the Tigers.
Caden Durham - Running Back
As a True Freshman, Caden Durham has been one of the best players for the LSU Football team. On Saturday Night, Durham was great once again rushing for 101 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries while catching one pass for seven yards. When LSU found itself backed up on its opening drive, Durham showed why he's the best back on the team breaking tackles and diving into the endzone for a 22 yard score.
Whit Weeks - Linebacker
The LSU defense has grown night and day compared to where this team was last season and where they've been at points this season. This is partly because of Whit Weeks' role growing as he's gone from a rotational player into a full-time starter. Last weekend, Whit Weeks was a monster racking up 18 tackles but, his performance this weekend may have been more impressive.
On Saturday, Whit Weeks was all over racking up nine tackles, a tackle for a loss, a sack, and an interception. When LSU lost Harold Perkins for the season they lost the threat of Perkins single-handedly wrecking an opponent's game. The Tigers now have that again in the middle of the defense as Whit Weeks is emerging in the middle of the defense.
