Around the Country this weekend, the College Baseball regular season drew to a close kicking off postseason play. The LSU Baseball team now heads to Hoover, Alabama as the 3rd seed in the SEC Tournament looking to take home another SEC Championship. While winning the SEC Championship would be nice, all eyes for the LSU Baseball program are on the NCAA Tournament and returning to Omaha.

Heading into this weekend, the LSU Baseball program couldn't have been in a better place as all 5 major publications had the Tigers ranked as the best team in the Country. The Tigers then handled business against South Carolina taking 2 of 3 off of the Gamecocks. Last week, D1Baseball projected LSU as the 2nd overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, following the weekend, the Tigers footing isn't as certain.

D1Baseball puts LSU on the brink of missing out on hosting Super Regionals

The latest projection by D1Baseball has the LSU Tigers all the way down to the 7th National seed which is an odd slide for the Tigers.

D1Baseball has in order, Texas, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Georgia, and Auburn all seeded ahead of the Tigers. Falling to 7th is a concern if the ranking is accurate as teams like Oregon State, Coastal Carolina, or Florida State could have impressive weeks winning their conference and potentially bump the Tigers out of the top 8 which would mean LSU may not have the chance to host a Super Regional.

The projection speaks to how hard it is to rely upon the National projections as last week the LSU Baseball team was the unanimous top ranked team by D1Baseball, Baseball America, Perfect Game, USA Today, and the NCBWA.

The projection pairs the Baton Rouge Regional with Coastal Carolina and the Conway, SC regional. While LSU fans will hope for a better seed, the Tigers projected regional is intriguing as LSU would draw Arizona, Miami (FL), and Miami (OH). A potential matchup with Arizona would pit Jay Johnson against his former program which is an interesting storyline.

The LSU Baseball team isn't done moving in the rankings and the projections with Conference Tournaments ahead. LSU has a double bye which means their first game will be against a likely Top 25 opponent and 1 win or more could easily put LSU safely in the Top 8.
