The LSU Basketball team gets a total team effort in win over Florida Gulf Coast
The LSU Tigers remained at Home this weekend looking to add another win over Florida Gulf Coast to their resume. The team continues to gel with every game they play together and today the starters were locked in playing the best they have as a unit all season long. The Tigers picked up a 80-71 win which is a bit misleading as the walk-ons were in the game but, the Tigers now have another great piece on their resume.
When LSU lost Jalen Reed for the season to a torn ACL, the Tigers needed improved performances from the other forwards. On Sunday, Daimion Collins scored a career high 18 points while grabbing 5 rebounds and blocking 1 shot. Corey Chest gave the Tigers another solid performance as well scoring 12 with a game high 12 rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Any time you can get solid performances from a few of your starters you're in good shape, when every starter scores in the double digits, you're nearly impossible to beat. Cam Carter gave the Tigers 13 Points with 5 assists, 4rebounds, a block, and 3 steals. Jordan Sears got to the free throw line with ease finishing the game with 13 points going 5-5 from the line with 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds. Dji Bailey continues to do everything for the Tigers scoring 11 points while grabbing 4 rebounds with 3 assists, and 2steals.
At the end of the game, LSU was able to get Noah Boyde some game action which is important as LSU looks to get the big man in the rotation as he recovers from knee surgery last year. This game marked the first time this season that LSU shot over 50% which is impressive as this team gels.
The Tigers now have another win over a Mid Major under their belt and while it may not be the most impressive win right now the hope is that some of these teams win their conference giving LSU solid Non-Conference wins over potential tournament teams. The Tigers will have a chance to knock off another ACC opponent next week when the Tigers take on SMU on the road.
