After losing their first game of the season snapping a 20 game winning streak on Friday, the LSU Women's Basketball team entered Sunday with a chance to start a new winning streak on Sunday. While LSU likes to play high scoring affairs with their explosive offense, the Texas A&M Aggies made this game a rock fight.
The first quarter went exactly how Texas A&M wanted as they held LSU to just 12 points slowing the Tigers offense down. In the second quarter, LSU started to pull away and then Texas A&M took a significant blow as Aicha Coulibaly their leading scorer suffered a significant leg injury as she couldn't put any weight on her leg.
Losing your leading scorer in any game is less than ideal and against a team as talented as LSU it was impossible to overcome. The Aggies defense did a great job keeping this game close but, LSU controlled the second half winning the half 34-26.
Flau'Jae Johnson was dominant scoring 22 points with 4 steals and she did a great job of getting to the free throw line and knocked down all eight attempts. The most shocking aspect of the game was that Aneesah Morrow did not record a double double yet, she was still dominant scoring 19 points with 9 rebounds. Mikaylah Williams had an off game but, she chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
The Lady Tigers didn't have their best showing on offense but, to see the Tigers react to it the way they did was excellent. The Tigers dominated the glass winning the rebounding battle 52 to 33 while grabbing 30 offensive rebounds.
The Lady Tigers now get a few days off after a quick turnaround before facing off against the 15th ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday.
