The 7th Ranked LSU Lady Tigers got to kick off what should be an electric weekend in Baton Rouge against Northwestern State. Beating Northwestern State isn't exactly a needle moving win but, it allows Kim Mulkey the chance to further see what her rotations should be when the schedule gets tougher.

If Kim Mulkey has learned anything the last two games it's that this team can play solid defense and they're doing it without one of its best defenders in Mjracle Sheppard who's dealing with injury. The Tigers only allowed 44 points in the season opener, and they sharpened things by allowing just 36 points.

The Tigers let up 14 points in the first quarter and the rest of the way the Lady Demons couldn't score more than ten points in any quarter. All LSU did was force turnovers recording 21 steals, blocking 8 shots, with 28 total turnovers forced and 41 points off of turnovers. The Lady Tigers allowed the Lady Demons to shoot just 18.6% from the field and 15.6% from three.

Flau'Jae Johnson once again had an incredible game scoring 24 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a pair of steals. On one play, Johnson put the entire Northwestern State defense in a blender before hitting a fadeaway jumper.

Mikaylah Williams was right behind Johnson doing it all for LSU scoring 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, a block, and 4 steals. Kailyn Gilbert came off the bench and gave LSU a solid showing scoring 13 points with 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists.

The Tigers haven't picked up the massive win that'll move up from 7th in the rankings but, they're proving a lot early on. Kim Mulkey spoke about how her team is short on depth due to injuries but, it's giving Mulkey the perfect chance to see which younger players are ready to contribute.
