The LSU offense sputtered yet again, and this time the defense couldn't bail them out. The Tiger defense had willed the Tigers to victories against Clemson and Florida earlier this season, but in Week 5 against Ole Miss, LSU's glaring offensive struggles resulted in a 24-19 loss to Lane Kiffin's Rebels. LSU now enters the bye week with a 4-1 overall record and a 1-1 mark in SEC play.

The health of LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier has been widely discussed among Tiger fans in recent weeks. Following the Florida game in Week 3, Brian Kelly said that the Tiger QB was dealing with a torso injury, but that he was playing through it and couldn't shut it down until the bye week.

After playing just over a half of football against Southeastern Louisiana in Week 4, LSU fans were hoping that Nussmeier was feeling better and would be back to his normal self in a massive matchup at No. 13 Ole Miss in Week 5. However, fans are concerned once again after Nussmeier appeared to be limited and didn't look like himself against the Rebels. One play in particular was eye-opening.

With the Tigers trailing 17-7 in the 3rd quarter, Nussmeier took a shot down the right side to WR Chris Hilton Jr. Hilton had his defender beat, and if Nussmeier hits him in stride its an easy touchdown for the Tigers. But Nussmeier badly underthrowns his receiver, and while the play resulted in the defensive pass interference penalty on Ole Miss, it was a missed opportunity for LSU.

It looked like Nussmeier put everything he had into the throw, but yet it was still severely underthrown. Fans and media members quickly took notice.

If Nussmeier is feeling 100%, a miss like that shoudn't be happening. LSU fans have seen Nussmeier make that throw in his sleep, and it being that underthrown as concerning. Alternatively, fans are wondering if his torso injury is still lingering and hampering his ability to throw the ball deep down the field. If that's the case, he either put everything he had into the throw and it was still short, or was intentionally holding back because he knows he can't fully let it loose because of the injury. He finished the day going 21-for-34 for 197 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

After the game, Nussmeier refused to answer any questions related to his health or how he is feeling. Hopefully Brian Kelly and/or Nussmeier provide more clarity over the next few days. LSU is on a bye this week before hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Tiger Stadium.
