The LSU Basketball team kicks off their season in less than a month. While we’re all excited to watch Matt McMahon’s squad this year the expectations aren’t too high for this team.

The Tigers finished the 2023-24 season just 17-16 finishing 9-9 in SEC play. The SEC has gone from a football conference that really didn’t care too much for Basketball into one of the best basketball conferences. The SEC is loaded this season which has led to the reloading LSU Basketball team being ranked near the bottom of the conference in the Preseason rankings.

The Tigers land 14th in the pool beating out Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. While the Tigers are ranked pretty low, the SEC will be one of the most competitive leagues in the country as all of these teams are immensely talented with experienced veterans up and down the rosters.

While Matt McMahon is experiencing recruiting success the on court success will need to start to turn in year three. Given that LSU has some highly touted transfers and freshmen coming in this team easily could out play expectations.

If the Tigers can handle their non-conference schedule and can pickup some big wins in the SEC portion of the schedule they could find their way onto the NCAA Tournament bubble with a solid record.
