LSU Baseball fans have been treated to two National Championships over the last three seasons. Jay Johnson continues to make Baton Rouge the premier landing spot in college baseball, and has already re-tooled his roster in hopes of making another trip to Omaha in 2026. As the start of the new season is still several months away, fans are still taking the time to enjoy the 2025 title team.
The LSU pitching staff put together a tremendous campaign en route to the national title. The Tiger pitching staff was led by Kade Anderson, who posted a 12-1 record and owned a 3.18 ERA and 1.059 WHIP over 19 starts. He also racked up 180 strikeouts in 119 innings of work. Anderson was dominant in Omaha, and was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. The Seattle Mariners selected Anderson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. He signed with Seattle for a signing bonus of $8.8 million.
While Anderson was the unquestioned leader, the LSU pitching staff as a whole posted elite numbers throughout the 2025 season.
LSU's elite 2025 pitching stats jump off the page
LSU racked up the strikeouts early and often in 2025. The Tigers' 760 strikeouts were the most among any college baseball team in 2025, and their K/9 ratio of 11.7 was 4th in the country. Anderson's 180 K's led the team, while Anthony Eyanson wasn't far behind with 152 of his own.
Baserunners were hard to come by for LSU's opponents last season. LSU's BAA of .219 ranked 3rd in the NCAA, and their 1.27 WHIP was 11th in the nation. Furthermore, LSU's hits/9 of 7.57 was 6th in the country. With guys like Anderson and Eyanson leading the way, these numbers aren't a surprise to Tiger fans. The staff as a whole held an ERA of 3.73, which was good for 7th in the NCAA.
The bullpen was also elite, racking up 18 saves. Casan Evans led the team with 8 saves, and put together several clutch performances in the NCAA Tournament. Evans allowed just 44 hits over 52.2 innings on the season, and posted a strong K/9 ratio of 12.1.
Anderson, Eyanson, and Shores (among others) are off to Major League Baseball, but the Tiger pitching staff returns several key pieces in Casan Evans, Zac Cowan, William Schmidt, and Gavin Guidry. Guidry missed all of the 2024 season with a back injury, but played a key role in LSU's 2023 season out of the bullpen. In total, he made 22 relief appearances while sporting a 2.59 ERA and collecting 38 strikeouts over 24.1 innings. He also recorded the final out of the 2023 College World Series.
