The recruitment of five-star receiver Tristen Keys has been a closely-followed process over the past several months. A 6-foot-3, 180-pound receiver from Hattiesburg, MS, Keys is rated as the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation by Rivals. He committed to LSU in March.

However, Keys has remained in contact with several other schools since making his commitment to LSU. The Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Miami Hurricanes are the top three programs that are hoping to flip Keys away from LSU. Of those schools, Tennessee appears to be the team with the best chance to lure Keys away from Baton Rouge.

Tennessee keeps working to flip top WR recruit

Keys visited Tennessee in June, and it reportedly went well. The Vols have continued to maintain contact with Keys, and in July, Rivals’ Chad Simmons reported that Tennessee is viewed as “LSU’s top competition heading into the season.”

Tennessee QB commit Faizon Brandon has been active in Keys' recruitment process, trying to secure a top wideout for his time in Knoxville. The pair are developing a close bond after having taken multiple trips to Tennessee together. Brandon, the No. 1 QB in the 2026 class, has been committed to Josh Heupel and Tennessee since last August.

With that being said, the Tigers feel good about their current stance with the highly-coveted receiver. Despite their efforts, it seems that the Vols are still playing catch-up in their pursuit of Keys. At this time, it appears that Keys will likely stay committed to LSU as he begins his senior season at Hattiesburg High School. During his junior season, Keys collected 58 receptions for 1,275 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In an ideal world for Tiger fans, Keys isn't impressed enough with any potential fall visits to abandon his commitment to LSU. The LSU program has shown again and again how great it is at developing elite wide receiver talent, which would make Baton Rouge a perfect home for Keys. The Tigers continue to churn out top-tier NFL receiving talent, most recently with 2024 first-round picks Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. both shining in their respective rookie seasons last year.
