LSU star linebacker and captain Whit Weeks missed the Vanderbilt game with an ankle injury. Weeks was wearing a walking boot on the sidelines during the game, and Tiger fans are eager to see him back on the field. His presence was sorely missed against the Commodores, as the Vanderbilt offense faced little to no resistance all game long en route to handing LSU a 31-24 loss.
But Tiger fans haven't gotten any positive updates related to Weeks' availability for Saturday night's battle against Texas A&M. According to On3's Shea Dixon, Weeks has yet to practice this week. Dixon added that Brian Kelly says Weeks is in a "non-weight bearing ankle boot," which puts his status for the Texas A&M game in serious doubt.
Whit Weeks injury update: Status for Texas A&M up in the air
Not having Weeks on the field loomed large against Vanderbilt. Weeks is the unquestioned leader of the Tiger defense, and the unit looked out of sorts without him. Diego Pavia ran wild for 86 yards and two scores, which gutted LSU's chances at getting a win. Desperately needing a strong defensive performance against Texas A&M, not having Weeks available again would be a tough blow for the Tigers.
Regardless of Weeks' status, it helps that Texas A&M's top running back Le'Veon Moss is out with an ankle injury. Moss leads the Aggies in rushing yards with 389, but has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury against Florida on Oct. 11. However, the Aggie have plenty of talent to go around on the offensive side of the ball, and no doubt made notes of what Vanderbilt was able to do against LSU last week.
Weeks was 2nd in the SEC with 125 tackles, and earned First-Team All-SEC honors. In six games this season he has 29 tackles (13 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Kick-off between the Tigers and Aggies is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday night in Death Valley.
