The LSU Football team has the most storied tradition with defensive backs as the Tigers have been an NFL Factory at the cornerback position throughout the 2000's. As Corey Raymond brought in massive recruits on a yearly basis he was then in charge of developing them into NFL Franchise cornerstones. Not every five star recruit pans out but, with Corey Raymond it felt like any cornerback he got his hands on was becoming a first round pick.

Raymond's reputation allowed him to land the Nation's top cornerbacks before then sending them to the NFL where they'd continue their rein of dominance. The Tigers have landed some of the most elite recruits in the recruiting ranking era and according to 24/7 Sports, here are LSU's highest ranked cornerback recruits of All Time.

After signing with LSU, True Freshman Eli Ricks burst onto the scene earning Third-Team All-American Honors and Second Team All-SEC honors oppostie Derek Stingley Jr. In his second season, Ricks played in just four games dealing with an injury and then poof he was gone transferring to Alabama. At LSU, Ricks looked like a First Round Pick but, after dealing with injuries and transferring Ricks went undrafted.

National Rank: 11th Positional Rank: 2nd Recruited By: Corey Raymond

As Corey Raymond returned to LSU, the pipeline of elite defensive backs coming into Baton Rouge returned as Corey Raymond signed the Nation's top cornerback DJ Pickett out of Florida. Pickett joins LSU as the Tigers desperately needs impact players at defensive back as LSU looks to return to the Tigers standard on defense. As a true Freshman, DJ Pickett will look to be a starter like several of the defensive backs before him as he certainly has the tools to do so.

Kevin Toliver II

National Rank: 9th Positional Rank: 2nd Recruited By: Corey Raymond

As a True Freshman, Kevin Toliver showed a ton of promise appearing in every game for LSU. As a Sophomore, Toliver's development was stunted as he missed the back half of the season with a shoulder injury. During his final season at LSU, Toliver saw his playing time started to decrease which led to him entering the NFL Draft. Toliver is a player who would've been helped with the current transfer portal rules but, instead it feels like he just scratched the surface of his potential.

Patrick Peterson

  • National Rank: 6th Positional Rank: 1st Recruited By: Earl Lane

When you think of true shutdown cornerbacks Patrick Peterson is the first one that comes to mind from LSU. As a Freshman, Peterson lived up to the billing playing in 13 games and as a Sophomore he became one of the best cornerbacks in the Country. As a Junior no one would throw at Peterson because for them at best he was batting it down and at worst he was getting an interception. Peterson finished his career with Second-Team All-American Honors, Unanimous All American Honors, Second Team All-SEC Honors, and a First Team selection while also winning the Bednarik Award, the Thorpe Award, and the Jack Tatum Trophy before turning pro.

  • National Rank: 3rd Positional Rank: 1st Recruited By: Corey Raymond

Few recruits have lived up to their five star billing at cornerback quite like Derek Stingley Jr did from the moment he took the field. As a Freshman, Stingley was a key piece in LSU winning the National Championship while racking up All-SEC and All-American Honors. In 2020, Stingley would miss three games but, he once again earned First-Team All-SEC Honors. The 2021 season wasn't what Stingley and the fans hoped for as he was only able to play in three games before becoming the Third Overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
