As the LSU Football team has reached the end of its season the NFL season is the next to end for the teams that won't reach the NFL Playoffs. As some players return to LSU the Tigers lose a handful of their top players to the NFL Draft.
The biggest loss by far is the loss of Left Tackle Will Campbell as he passed up his Senior season for the Draft. As a True Freshman Campbell started for the Tigers and only missed one game with an illness becoming a mainstay for the Tigers up front.
At the NFL level it'll be interesting to see where Campbell ends up playing as some NFL Draft analysts have suggested Campbell will be best suited on the interior offensive line. Given Campbell's impressive career at left tackle, an NFL team would be wrong to not try Campbell at tackle to see if he can fit. If Campbell sticks at tackle and is drafted in the first round he'd be LSU's first offensive tackle to be taken in the first round of the draft.
Based on ability to play right away as well as team need, the following five teams would be the best fits for Will Campbell.
New York Jets
The New York Jets enter the offseason in an interesting place as Aaron Rodgers could retire while the team may also choose to move on. Regardless of who starts at quarterback, the Jets will be looking to plug some holes on their offensive line. The Jets started the year with two veterans at tackle but, given the age of Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses the Jets should look to get younger. The offensive line as a whole had some issues as Aaron Rodgers was sacked 37 times. After drafting Olu Fashanu at tackle last season, the Jets could set themselves up nicely for the future by also adding Will Campbell.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Last offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a massive investment in Trevor Lawrence signing him to a 5 year $275 million extension, as well as giving him a top receiver in Brian Thomas Jr. This season, Lawrence dealt with injuries and now the team needs to invest in protecting their franchise quarterback. Adding Will Campbell would allow the Jaguars to try one of their younger offensive tackle to guard or if Campbell is willing he can move to the inside helping bolster the group up front.
New England Patriots
This season hasn't been a great year for the Patriots as the team currently owns the worst record in football but, quarterback Drake Maye has shown a ton of promise. The Patriots currently own the first overall pick but, will likely trade out of the pick if they hold onto it as a quarterback needy team will certainly move up to secure their guy. If that's the case the first priority should be protecting Drake Maye and Campbell would be the perfect addition to an offensive line that had serious issues giving up 51 sacks this season.
Chicago Bears
Heading into the year there was a ton of excitement for the Bears after selecting Caleb Williams 1st overall and adding key pieces around him. This season didn't pan out well for the Bears as they'll need to hire a new coach as the team far underperformed expectations. The offensive line has a serious issues as Caleb Williams took 67 sacks this season a clear issue moving forward. Campbell could slot in at either tackle position or again kick inside to help the team in improving the line overall.
Miami Dolphins
After making it to the Playoffs last season, the Dolphins remain in the Playoffs but, the year was derailed by injuries keeping the team from hitting its potential. The main priority for the Dolphins has to be protecting Tua Tagovailoa who has dealt with concussion issues his entire career. Terron Armstead has dealt with injuries at left tackle this season and given that the team has an out in the contract it wouldn't be shocking if they moved on. Given the investment in Tagovailoa, taking a tackle in Campbell would be the best choice for the team going forward.
