As it stands, the LSU Tigers boast the 11th-ranked recruiting class for 2026 according to 247Sports. That would be the worst class that Brian Kelly has signed at LSU, as his classes have never ranked outside the top-10. Kelly and his staff are still rounding out the 2026 class, and have shown they can utilize the transfer portal effectively in order to round out their roster.

But after the recent firing of Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry, there are a couple Hokie commits that LSU should target. Virginia Tech showed Pry the door after starting the 2025 season 0-3, which included a 45-26 loss to Old Dominion last Saturday. Pry went 16-24 overall with a 10-13 ACC record during his time in Blacksburg.

LSU should grab two recruits from Virginia Tech amid coaching change

Virginia Tech currently has the 97th-ranked recruiting class for 2026. No four or five star players are in the class, so big-name programs may not be swooning over the available players. But, there are two names that could be worth exploring for LSU.

Andrew Rogers, EDGE

The first recruit that Kelly should look into is EDGE Andrew Rogers. Rogers hails from Greensboro, NC and is ranked as the No. 19 player in North Carolina and No. 35 EDGE in the country. He reclassified from 2027 to 2026, and owns a big frame at 6-foot-6, 240 pounds. Rogers committed to Virginia Tech just a few weeks ago on August 22, and had offers from several SEC schools. LSU extended an offer to the three-star prospect, and his list also included offers from Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee, among others.

Rogers has a natural playmaking ability, racking up 20+ sacks during his sophomore season in 2024. On the season, Rogers racked up 76 tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 23 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery at Greensboro Dudley.

Cole Bergeron, QB

LSU does not have any QB commits in its 2026 class, and Bergeron is worth a look. He possesses great size with a 6-foot-4.5, 210-pound frame, and is a three-star prospect ranked as the No. 38 QB recruit in the 2026 class. His most noteworthy offer aside from Virginia Tech was Indiana, and given Curt Cignetti's prowess for targeting and developing QBs, it might be beneficial for Kelly to give him a look.

Bergeron was not offered by the Tigers before he committed, so it may be tough to establish a relationship this late in the game. But, it bodes well that he is an in-state product hailing from St. Thomas More in Lafayette. Last season, Bergeron was a Louisiana District 4-4A first-team selection as a junior.

It wouldn't be surprising to see Kelly dip into the transfer portal in search of a QB1 for 2026, but Bergeron is worth exploring. 247Sports Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks praises Bergeron for many aspects of his game.

"Big-framed pro-style quarterback with a corresponding big arm that shows in downfield vertical passing game juice and short-to-intermediate velocity. Excellent timing and touch passer who knows how to throw to spots to allow only his receivers to make plays on the ball. Smooth, repeatable release fosters consistent spiral and RPMs."
