During the first game of LSU's season as Kaleb Jackson and Josh Williams struggled to pick up consistent gains in the rushing attack, John Emery Jr was inserted into the game. Emery Jr quickly flipped the narrative for LSU running the ball 10 times for 61 yards while catching one pass for 10 yards.
The USC game ended up being the only game of the season for John Emery as the veteran running back suffered a torn ACL in practice marking back to back years with season ending ACL injuries. It seemed as if the injury would mark Emery's last game at LSU and in College Football as he was a Super Senior. Then on Thursday, Emery took to social media announcing he wasn't quite done sporting the purple and gold yet.
John Emery Jr will play his 7th season of College Football
John Emery Jr announced that he will be returning for one more season after everyone expected the injury would end his career.

It's not a 100% certainty that John Emery Jr will play for LSU as the coaching staff would need to take him back but, he could provide a ton of value for LSU as a veteran on this team.
As Josh Williams is out of eligibility, John Emery Jr would return as the only remaining player from the 2019 National Championship team. Getting Emery Jr back in the fold would give LSU a veteran in a younger running back room which is an asset as LSU brings in a pair of elite running backs in Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey.
When John Emery Jr arrived at LSU he came with a ton of high expectations as he was a five-star recruit and one of the top running backs in the Country. Injuries have unfortunately defined Emery Jr's career as he's twice missed massive chunks of the season with torn ACLs while he missed the 2021 season for other reasons.
It'll be interesting to see whether John Emery Jr returns to LSU or if he decides to test the transfer portal once again like he did last offseason.
