On Wednesday, the Spring Transfer Portal window in College Football officially opened as for the next ten days, players can enter their names into the transfer portal seeking a new program. Brian Kelly indicated prior to the transfer window opening that it should be a quiet cycle for the LSU Football team or he at least hopes that will be the case.
"It wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t have anybody in the portal on either side, either leaving our program or adding. If you ask me right now, I would be happy to take this roster right into May on both sides of it. Maybe that’s fool’s gold. Maybe that’s wishing more than it is anything else. But I like what we’ve done with this roster. I like the development of it."Brian Kelly
On Wednesday Night, the LSU Football team lost its first transfer of this cycle but, it doesn't come as a surprise.
John Emery Jr officially enters the transfer portal leaving LSU
LSU veteran running back John Emery Jr entered the transfer portal on Wednesday night as he'll play his 7th season of College Football outside of Baton Rouge.
The departure is not at all surprising as LSU fans initially thought Emery's career was done when he suffered another torn ACL following the first game of the season. When Emery announced he'd look to play this season, Brian Kelly was quick to announce that Emery wouldn't be playing for LSU.
"We love John, but sometimes, you know, things happen. We don't know where it came from. We'll be supportive in any way we can, but we're set where we are at in terms of the running back position. But love John, and we will be here to help and support him. If he's given a seventh year, he is certainly a young man who can help somebody in the Power Four."Brian Kelly
John Emery Jr was the final piece on the roster from the 2019 National Championship season. During his tenure at LSU, Emery played in 38 games rushing for 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns on 223 carries adding another 330 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.
After missing the 2021 season where he was set to emerge, John Emery Jr's career was knocked off its path due to injuries. In 2023 and 2024, Emery suffered torn ACL's which cost him the majority of both seasons. Last year, John Emery Jr entered the transfer portal and was expected to land at UCLA before returning to LSU.
