The 2024 season for the SEC was defined by good but, not great quarterback play after a few seasons of incredible play. The Conference didn't send a quarterback to New York for the Heisman ceremony and in the Playoffs the Quarterbacks didn't play their best. Heading into 2025, the quarterback play may be back as the SEC returns several quarterbacks that showed a ton of talent and added a few that have the chance to be special players.
. Zach Calzada. player. 16. 528. ZCzada. Zach Calzada. . Transfer Via Incarnate World.
Mark Stoops and Kentucky go the way of the transfer Quarterback once again bringing in Zach Calzada from Incarnate World. While bringing in Calzada may work out, it's a move that doesn't make a ton of sense, Kentucky has gone with transfer quarterback after transfer quarterback failing time over time yet, they won't develop their own quarterback. Calzada joins Kentucky which is his third SEC school and even if it pans out they'll be looking for a Quarterback again next season.
player. Beau. . 15. 531. Transfer Via Penn State. . Beau Pribula. Beau Pribula.
The Missouri Tigers lose their reliable veteran quarterback Brady Cook and now turn the offense over to transfer quarterback Beau Pribula. The Tigers bring Pribula in from Penn State where he served as the backup to Drew Allar while also serving as a weapon for the offense in designed run packages. It's tough to project how good Pribula will be after limited playing time but, he loses a ton of the weapons that helped make Brady Cook a solid quarterback.
Blake Shapen. player. 530. . . Blake Shapen. . . 14. MMST
Blake Shapen was off to a solid start passing for 974 yards with 8 touchdowns and just one interception before missing the rest the season with an injury. It's tough to gauge where Shapen may be this season as Mississippi State lost its best pass catchers to other schools in the transfer portal but, Shapen could put up massive numbers as the Bulldogs will be trailing in nearly every game.
523. . Ty Simpson. Ty Simpson. . . Tysimp. . 13. player
As things currently stand, Ty Simpson is penciled in as the starter for Alabama but, it may end up being a camp battle between Simpson, Austin Mack, and Five-Star Freshman Keelon Russell. When we have seen Ty Simpson, he's been more effective as a runner as he's completed 29 of 50 attempts for 381 yards while rushing for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns. If Simpson is the starter he'll have a loaded receiving core to help in his development.
. 12. Tgreen. Taylen Green. player. 524. . . . Taylen Green
This season, Taylen Green flew under the radar, and he was clearly playing a bit banged up during SEC Play. Green completed 60.4% of his passes for 3,154 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions while rushing for 602 yards and 8 touchdowns. In his second season in the offense Green should be able to cut down on his incompletions and interceptions to take the next step.
Austin Simmons. Asimmons. 11. Austin Simmons. 532. . . player. .
There isn't a large sample size with Austin Simmons but, when he did play it looked promising for Ole Miss. When Jaxson Dart got injured against Georgia, Simmons drove the Rebels down the field with ease scoring a touchdown before Dart returned. While Simmons is promising it will be a step back from Jaxson Dart and he'll have a worse receiving core than Dart had.
. Marcel Reed. 535. TAMU. . 10. . . Marcel Reed. player
The beginning of the season became a back and forth between Conner Weigman and Marcel Reed before finally, Marcel Reed grabbed the reins against LSU taking over with his legs. Now, Texas A&M will look to develop Marcel Reed, and they went out and got elite playmakers at receiver to help him take the next step.
Jackson Arnold. 9. 525. . Transfer Via Oklahoma. player. jaxon. Jackson Arnold. .
After a season filled with quarterback issues, Hugh Freeze went out and added Jackson Arnold via the Transfer Portal. Jackson Arnold didn't have the best season as a starter and was bench for Michael Hawkins but, in his defense the offensive line was abysmal and his four best receivers were hurt for most of the season. Jackson Arnold goes to Auburn where he'll have a great offensive line and one of the best receiver duos in the Country so we should finally see what Jackson Arnold's truly capable of.
. 527. UGaye. Gunner Stockton. Gunner Stockton. . . player. . 8
As Carson Beck transfers to Miami, the offense is handed over to Gunner Stockton as was expected when Beck declared for the NFL Draft. Between the SEC Championship Game and in the College Football Playoff we've already seen a glimpse of Gunner Stockton. In his lone start, Stockton showed a ton of promise and was killed by drops which should be fixed as Georgia brings in talented pass catchers via the Transfer Portal.
. . . . Diego Pavia. Commodores. 537. 7. Diego Pavia. player
In his first season at Vanderbilt, Diego Pavia showed his magic works even against the defenses in the SEC. This season Pavia was incredible passing for 2,293 yards with 20 touchdowns and just four interceptions while rushing for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. The Commodores now need to develop pass catchers around Pavia as he could end up being a Top Quarterback in the Conference with a better supporting cast.
6. Arch Manning. . player. . . . Arch Manning. 467. Utex
The past two seasons have been filled with teasers of what Arch Manning could be leading Texas' offense and now everyone will get to see what it'll look like. Arch Manning did gain some starting experience this season when Quinn Ewers was injured and finished the year with 939 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions passing adding 108 yards and four scores with his legs. Manning will take his lumps at times but, his ability to run can bail him out at times.
. 5. . Deejay. . player. 526. DJ Lagway. . DJ Lagway
Down the stretch of the season, DJ Lagway showed the flashes that made him a five-star recruit and a top quarterback in his class. Down the stretch of the season, Lagway was playing through injury finishing with 12 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. The Gators added two big pieces in Dallas Wilson and J Michael Sturdivant that can help Lagway take this offense to the next level.
Nico Iamaleava. . player. . . . 534. Nyco. Nico Iamaleava. 4
This season, the Tennessee offense didn't hit the level everyone expected with Nico Iamaleava taking over under Josh Heupel. Nico Iamaleava finished the season passing for 2,616 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions rushing for 358 yards and 3 touchdowns. In Year Two, Iamaleava should take a jump up, especially as Dylan Sampson leaves for the NFL meaning Tennessee will be a pass first team once again.
. 3. 464. Mateer. John Mateer. . . Transfer via Washington State. John Mateer. player
Ranking John Mateer in the top three may be higher than most would expect especially as he transfers into the SEC but, he's that good of a player. This past season at Washington State, Mateer passed for 3,139 yards with 29 touchdowns with 7 interceptions while rushing for 826 yards and 15 touchdowns. Mateer comes to Oklahoma with his Offensive Coordinator Ben Arbuckle and he can transform this Oklahoma offense into one of the better offenses in the conference.
. LaNorris Sellers. 2. player. . . LaNorris Sellers. 533. Sellers.
In LaNorris Sellers' first season at South Carolina, he showed electric ability and as the season went along he helped get South Carolina into the College Football Playoff conversation. The ability Sellers has to take over the game as a rusher is what makes him one of the best quarterbacks in the Country in 2025. This season Sellers passed for 2,534 yards with 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, with a full year under his belt he should be able to cut down on the turnovers and score more often.
Garrett Nussmeier. Nussy. Garrett Nussmeier. 1. . . . 529. . player
At times during last season, Garrett Nussmeier looked like the best quarterback in the SEC but, he also hit a rough stretch which saw him turn the ball over too often. Given that Nussmeier now has a full season of experience under his belt he should take a massive second year leap. When you look at the weapons LSU brought in to help Garrett Nussmeier, LSU's offense may be one of if not the best in the SEC.
