There are few things better in College Sports than Rivalries especially rivalries against Conference opponents. In the years where the SEC had East and West Divisions, every year you could count on facing the same opponents every year which built up Natural rivalries. One of those rivalries for LSU was against the Mississippi State Bulldogs which eventually became a one sided matchup as LSU dominated the Bulldogs nearly every season.
The LSU Football team has beaten Mississippi State more than any opponent in the history of the program with 78 wins over the Bulldogs in 117 matchups with a 76-38-3 record. The Tigers have been dominant over the Bulldogs in the early 2000's beating Mississippi State in every matchup from 2000-2013. The Tigers also won ten straight games over Mississippi State from 1964 through 1973.
The largest margin of victory for LSU over Mississippi State didn't happen during the 2019 season when LSU was blowing everyone out, the largest win for LSU happened in 1967 when LSU won 55-0.
In the series between LSU and Mississippi State, there have been some incredible games and some massive performances. In 1991, Todd Kinchen set an LSU record with 248 yards but, the Tigers lost 28-19. In 2000, LSU erased a 31-17 deficit to win 45-38 in Overtime. In 2009, Mississippi drove all the way down to the goal line but, the Tigers defense came up with a massive goal line stand to win the game. In 2022, Brian Kelly made his SEC Debut against Mississippi State with a 31-16 win at Home.
Conference Realignment has taken away what was a great yearly matchup as LSU and Mississippi State are no longer permanent opponents. The teams will eventually face off again as schedules now rotate but, it's unclear when that will be.
