While hope is slim for LSU, there is a slight chance at the SEC Championship game
On Saturday Night, LSU's hopes of making the College Football Playoff as an at large team were officially crushed as the Tigers took their third loss to Alabama. The Tigers in a sense aren't fully eliminated in the College Football Playoff race however, as there's still a path to the College Football Playoff but it isn't an easy path.
The SEC Championship Game Winner gets an automatic bid into the College Football Playoff. That is the path for LSU as they only have two losses in SEC Play to Alabama and Texas A&M.
LSU's path would start with winning their remaining three games against Florida, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma. The Tigers will likely face Florida's third string quarterback, Vanderbilt is impressive yet beatable, and Oklahoma has been a disaster this season. Given how inconsistent LSU has been, none of those games are a guarantee but, they are games the Tigers should win.
The Tigers would then need a win from Georgia when they face off against Tennessee next weekend. The Bulldogs now have two losses and a third loss in Conference would likely eliminate the Bulldogs from contention as well so this will be a do or die game from Kirby Smart.
The Tigers would then need the Crimson Tide to lose to either Oklahoma or Auburn as it would give the Crimson Tide their third in-conference loss. The Tide should dominate both of these team's but the years you think Auburn has no chance are the years they always give Alabama trouble.
If LSU's path somehow opened up, they'd play the winner of the game between Texas and Texas A&M in Atlanta. The only chance LSU would have in this scenario is by winning the SEC Championship Game as a loss would give them four losses on the season.
Given how the SEC has played out this season you can't put it past teams like Texas A&M, Texas, and Alabama to get tripped up along the way but, LSU will know if its officially eliminated next weekend.
