The Early Signing Period opened on Wednesday and the LSU Football program got everything it needed to done as the Tigers signed 23 recruits after pulling off a late flip of five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas. Now that the recruiting cycle is over for LSU, the focus is now building out the class through the transfer portal.

One position the Tigers didn't fare as well at as you'd hope is at wide receiver as the Tigers signed just two receivers after Derek Meadows flipped to Alabama. LSU will lose Kyren Lacy to the NFL Draft as well as Landon Ibieta and CJ Daniels to the transfer portal plus whoever else may enter the transfer portal.

The returnee that will lead the receiving core is Aaron Anderson while Chris Hilton Jr should be returning with experience. Outside of that, Anderson and Thomas are the only returnees that caught five or more passes this season so LSU will need to develop the younger players into contributors.

When it comes to the transfer portal players like a Kevin Concepcion from NC State standout but, if all goes well he will only be in the program for a season before heading off to the NFL Draft. When LSU pursues a wide receiver in the transfer portal you'd hope that they can find some multi-year contributors.

At the top of that list is Texas Tech transfer Micah Hudson who is coming off of his freshman season. Last year, Hudson was a five-star recruit and chose to stay home signing with Texas Tech but, he caught just 8 passes for 123 yards this year.

When you watch the plays Hudson did make, its clear that the talent is there he just didn't play enough.

Pursuing a player like Micah Hudson is the perfect move for the LSU Football program and the direction they're going in. This core on offense is loaded with freshmen and sophomores for next season with Caden Durham, Trey'Dez Green, Jelani Watkins, and Kylan Billiot all slated to return with a massive freshman class coming in.

While its early in the transfer cycle both On3 and Rivals have named LSU a team to watch for Micah Hudson.

Why Hudson makes sense for LSU

Adding Hudson who will play another season after 2025 gives LSU another piece on that same timeline setting them up nicely for the next two years. Cortez Hankton would be getting a five-star talent he can develop like we've seen he's done with Kyren Lacy and Aaron Anderson who spent their first seasons outside the program. If you're going to go into the transfer portal for key pieces it should be players that can play multiple seasons so you aren't reloading every year.
