The New England Patriots just helped the LSU Tigers make history as their selection of Will Campbell gave the LSU Tigers their first ever offensive tackle to be selected in the NFL Draft and the 2nd offensive lineman in program history to be taken in the first round. The team lands a wall at left tackle who will help keep franchise quarterback Drake Maye upright for decades to come.
Will Campbell is a special player to LSU Football fans as he became a fan favorite before even stepping on campus. When LSU hired Brian Kelly, the Monroe Native stuck with his commitment to LSU signing with the Tigers. Campbell would go on to be a three year starter at Left Tackle for the Tigers eventually sporting the number 7 for the Tigers symbolic for a player who became a leader for the team.
Will Campbell's interview puts LSU Tigers fans in tears
After being selected 4th overall by the New England Patriots, Will Campbell spoke to ESPN's Molly McGrath where he had LSU Fans tearing up from at home. Molly McGrath asked Will Campbell what it meant to represent LSU and his home state of Louisiana to which Will Campbell said the following:
"It means everything, They did so much for me and my family and for me to be able to represent them the right way, I'll never be able to repay them for what they did for me."Will Campbell
Coming from Will Campbell, the quote means a lot as he truly was one of those special players that LSU fans couldn't help but fall in love with. Will Campbell was the symbol of a new era at LSU and he helped anchor the LSU offensive line for three seasons including a historic Heisman Season by Jayden Daniels.
While Will Campbell is off to the NFL, he'll forever be a fan favorite in Baton Rouge and while he feels he can never repay LSU fans, the Tigers fans feel the same way about having Campbell as a leader of their program.
