LSU baseball: pitcher Eric Walker shines as Tigers take down Air Force 10-3
By Crissy Froyd
After the original season opener was rained out and the schedule dilemma was all solved, the LSU baseball Tigers got the chance to sink their teeth into the Air Force on Sunday.
The 10-3 win marked LSU’s ninth consecutive year of beginning a season with three victories. And needless to say, a lot went right for the Bayou Bengals this go around.
Pitcher Eric Walker kicked off his LSU career this contest, retiring the first ten batters he was faced with and striking out a total of five.
His first hit allowed wouldn’t come until the fourth inning, when the Air Force’s Nic Ready snapped the game’s trend of 33 straight batters the Tigers had gone up against without allowing for a single hit.

Walker was just one of many LSU baseball players who put on an outstanding performance on Sunday, as coach Paul Mainieri sung high praises of his entire squad.
“I was proud of the way our players kept their attention to detail and focus throughout the weekend,” Mainieri said.
“You never want to say you played a perfect game, because there are always things that can be improved upon, but I thought our team performed very well in all three games. We had phenomenal starting pitching, we played great defense, and we swung the bats well, so how can we not be pleased with the whole weekend? This was a super way to start the season.”
The Tigers will get back to what they do best when they take on New Orleans at Maestri Field in New Orleans on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
