Power ranking the most entertaining coaches in the SEC
By Zach Ragan
4. Nick Saban — Alabama
Nick Saban is the curmudgeon of the SEC. He’s always mad about something. Even when he wins, he’s mad. So it’s always fun to watch him lash out for no reason at an innocent sideline reporter for just doing their job. He doesn’t stop there, either. I’ve seen him asked legitimate questions at press conferences only to go on a diatribe about why the question was dumb — instead of just quickly answering the question and being done with it. Saban seems to enjoy conflict and that always makes for good entertainment.
3. Lane Kiffin — Ole Miss
Is there a coach who has been through more at such a young age than Lane Kiffin? I mean this guy has been the head coach of the Raiders, Tennessee, USC and Florida Atlantic. He’s also been an offensive coordinator at Alabama. Now he’s the head coach at Ole Miss. And he’s only 44. Anyway, if you don’t understand why he’s entertaining, just go check out his Twitter feed.
He’s going to make the SEC West fun.
2. Ed Orgeron — LSU
I’d love to put Coach O at number one, but I just can’t do it. There’s nothing I love more than a Coach O interview. And I’m not alone in that. Everyone in the country knows that a Coach O interview is going to end with GEAUX TIGAHS!!! And it still excites everyone — even non LSU fans (for the most part) every time he says it. Plus, let’s be honest — Coach O has some of the best stories in college football. The LSU Tigers head coach is ALWAYS entertaining.
1. Mike Leach — Mississippi State
It has to be Mike Leach here, right?
Every single week that Mike Leach has been a head coach in college football has been entertaining. This guy talks about pirates and history (and whatever else is on his mind) more than he talks about football (perhaps that’s by design). I can’t wait to see Leach in the SEC on a weekly basis. His press conferences at Washington State received plenty of attention, but his pressers at Mississippi State will become events. There’s no one in college football more entertaining than Mike Leach.
I can’t wait to hear his takes on college football next season.
