The Cincinnati Bengals selected LSU football’s Joe Burrow with the first overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Prior to the NFL draft combine, the popular rumor was that Joe Burrow didn’t want to play for the Cincinnati Bengals.

There wasn’t any real basis for the rumor. It started mostly because of some comments made by former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer about Cincinnati not wanting to win.

Palmer’s brother, Jordan, worked out with Burrow during the offseason.

Talking heads took Palmer’s comments and ran with them, creating a bizarre narrative that Burrow had to confront at the combine.

(To his credit, Palmer recently said he never tried to talk Burrow out of playing for Cincy.)

Burrow told reporters in February at the combine that he would play for whichever team drafted him.

On Thursday night, that team turned out to be the Bengals (like we assumed it would be all along).

And let’s just say it’s nothing but love between Burrow and his new team.

Burrow told reporters during a conference call on Thursday night that playing close to home is a “dream come true” and that he and his family couldn’t be more excited about it.

The former LSU quarterback also confirmed that Bengals owner Mike Brown wrote him and his family three letters. Burrow said of the letters “That shows what kind of person he is, and I’m excited to be his quarterback hopefully for a long time”.

A long time.

I think it’s fair to say that all the drama back in the winter was just complete nonsense. And it was probably created by other teams hoping to force the Bengals into a trade.

Joe Burrow is the next NFL icon. dark. Next

Fortunately for Cincinnati, they didn’t give into the pressure. They made the right pick and their entire franchise is going to turn around because of it.
