2021 4-star OL tells great story about LSU football’s family atmosphere
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is all about family under head coach Ed Orgeron.
When Ed Orgeron was hired as LSU football‘s permanent head coach prior to the 2017 season, he made it clear that the program was going to be all about family.
That wasn’t just lip service from Coach O, either.
LSU’s family atmosphere has been a recurring theme during interviews with recruits. It’s one of the main things that draws top recruits — especially out-of-state players — to Baton Rouge.
That family atmosphere doesn’t stop with the coaching staff and the team, by the way. It permeates through the program. And that was illustrated perfectly in a recent story from a top 2021 offensive lineman.
LSU football’s family atmosphere is program-wide
2021 four-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh is one of the top recruits in the nation. And he’s one of LSU’s top recruiting targets.
The Virginia native recently discussed his recruitment with Rivals and he told a great story about his experience at the Tigers’ matchup against Texas A&M last season.
From Rivals:
"Coach O is all about family. When we went to the LSU game against Texas A&M, my mom had some trouble getting up the stairs. The parents of the LSU players were helping my mom up the stairs instead of watching their sons play. I’m not even committed and they’re treating us like family."
That story just shows how close the LSU football family truly is. It’s easy to see why recruits and their families want to part of what Coach O and his staff have created in Baton Rouge.
Will Leigh eventually be part of that family?
It’s still a bit early to know where Leigh is leaning. But he made it clear to Rivals that he’s going to base his commitment mostly off relationships and trust. And he made it fairly obvious that he trusts the staff at LSU.
“My relationship with (LSU offensive line) Coach Cregg great. He is probably one of the top three most honest coaches that I know,” said Leigh.
The dominant offensive lineman is hoping to return to LSU in September for an official visit.
Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma are also in the mix.
Leigh has a close relationship with five-star quarterback Caleb Williams, who appears to be Oklahoma bound.
It’s unclear how much Williams’ decision will affect Leigh’s, but it makes me think this will probably be a battle between the Sooners and the Tigers.
