LSU football added a key 2022 recruit on Friday.

LSU football won’t have to worry much about the quarterback position for the next several years.

In recent weeks, the Tigers have landed two big-time quarterback recruits. 2021 four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier committed to LSU in early May. And on Friday, 2022 four-star quarterback Walker Howard (the nation’s No. 3 rated pro-style quarterback according to 247Sports) committed to the Tigers.

Nussmeier and Howard both have strong Louisiana connections, so it’s no surprise that the duo will be playing college football in Baton Rouge.

LSU football’s newest commit has a clear mission in mind

Howard committed to LSU for several reasons. For one, his father, Jamie Howard, is a former Tigers quarterback.

Then there’s also his affinity for Ed Orgeron.

“There’s no one like Coach O. I know some great football coaches, but there’s not a better person or coach than Coach O,” said Howard in an interview with Rivals.

“He’s the best and he’s the kind of coach I want to play for and that I will play for,” added Howard.

But perhaps the biggest reason that Howard decided to commit to LSU is his desire to win a national championship.

And that’s Howard’s main goal (along with helping bring in an elite 2022 recruiting class to help accomplish that goal).

“We’re gonna get a great group of guys and win a national championship (at LSU). That’s what I’m trying to find and that’s what I want to do,” explained Howard.

The Louisiana native noted that he’s met a lot of talented players on the recruiting trail and he’s started building relationships with those players. Howard’s hoping to help bring some of that talent to LSU.

Sometimes the best recruiter for a program isn’t a coach — it’s a player who can connect with fellow players in a way that a coach can’t.

Howard is going to be a game-changer for the Tigers in more ways than one. LSU’s 2021 class is trending up. And it looks like their 2022 class is on the same path.
