LSU football is in the middle of a tough battle for a four-star linebacker.

Four-star linebacker Jeremiah Williams is one of LSU football‘s top 2021 defensive recruiting targets.

Williams, 6-foot-3/224 lbs from Birmingham, AL (Ramsay), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 5 player in the state of Alabama and the No. 105 overall recruit in the nation.

The Alabama native recently revealed his top six schools and he included LSU, along with Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and Oklahoma.

Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons recently ranked the contenders for Williams and he has LSU as the third most likely team to land the dynamic linebacker, behind Florida and Auburn.

“One of the first true recruiting trips Williams made early on was to LSU. He went with some family members, including his grandfather, and the Tigers really impressed him,” wrote Simmons.

The Rivals recruiting analyst added, “the consistent defense LSU pushes out always has had Williams’ attention”.

Williams told Rivals earlier this month that he’s going to wait until signing day to reveal his decision, saying “It basically will come down to my official visits. The vibe I get from the college, the coaches and the players.”

(It should be noted that the NCAA this week extended the recruiting dead period through August 31.)

What LSU football would get in Williams

If the Tigers are able to land Williams, they’d be getting a versatile defender that can rush the passer or make plays in the open field.

247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons says Williams is an “extremely patient and instinctive player” who “trusts his athleticism”.

The NFL comparison for Williams, according to 247Sports, is former Alabama linebacker Rashaan Evans, who was selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
