Where LSU football stands with the nation’s top rated 2021 recruit
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is very much in the mix for the nation’s top-rated 2021 recruit.
2021 five-star defensive end Korey Foreman revealed his top seven schools this week and LSU football made the cut.
Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Howard, Oregon, and USC are the other programs in Foreman’s top seven.
Foreman, 6-foot-4/265 lbs from Corona, CA (Centennial), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 2021 recruit in the nation.
The California native was previously committed to Clemson, but he decommitted in late April so he could take visits to other programs.
Foreman has expressed interest in playing in college with 2021 five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith, a Louisiana native who is one of the Tigers’ main recruiting targets.
Can LSU football land Foreman and Smith?
Smith revealed his top eight schools earlier this week. There were five programs that appeared on both Foreman’s and Smith’s lists: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, and USC.
USC has been viewed as the favorite for Foreman, while LSU is the perceived favorite for Smith.
247Sports reported this week that LSU “has a real shot” for Foreman while noting that Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is “personally recruiting Foreman”.
In that same report, 247Sports notes that if USC struggles to win 9-10 games in 2020, then the Trojans are likely out. With Clay Helton firmly on the hot seat at USC, I could definitely see the Trojans failing to reach 9-10 wins.
Foreman has told 247Sports in the past that going to a program where he can get developed and reach the NFL is his main criteria for a school.
If that’s the case, then LSU should be in a good spot. The Tigers had 14 players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft and Coach O is a defensive line mastermind.
It sounds like LSU has everything Foreman could want in a program.
