LSU Football: Tigers get their bulletin board material for the season
By Zach Ragan
LSU football will have plenty of motivation in 2020.
I have no idea what the 2020 season will look like, but one thing is certain — LSU football has all the motivation they need to succeed.
And that’s thanks to the predictions of “nearly five dozen beat writers” that 247Sports quizzed to come up with a pre-season poll.
According to the predictions, which were released by 247Sports on Friday, LSU will finish third in the SEC West behind Alabama (predicted to finish first) and Auburn (predicted to finish second).
Here’s what 247Sports had to say about the Tigers:
"LSU is a head-scratcher, for sure, this season after one of the better seasons in college football history. The Tigers lose 14 players to the NFL Draft, including Joe Burrow, who had the best passing season in college football history (and did so against some of the best defenses in the country). Myles Brennan steps in as the starter. He’ll get plenty of help from the nation’s top receiver from last season. Ja’Marr Chase led the country with 1,780 yards and 20 receiving touchdowns last season. The second-biggest loss at LSU might not be a player: co-offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who revamped the passing schemes last season, left for an NFL coaching gig."
The media will regret sleeping on LSU football
I’ve been saying all summer that I understand LSU not being the unanimous favorite to win the SEC West. I get that Alabama is and should be the favorite.
But dropping the Tigers all the way to third? That seems unwise.
LSU may have lost a plethora of talent to the NFL, but they’re still one of the most talented teams in not just the SEC, but in the entire nation.
Myles Brennan is a talented quarterback with an incredibly strong arm. Ja’Marr Chase is the best wide receiver in the nation. And Derek Stingley Jr is the best cornerback in the nation (in fact, he might be the best overall player in the nation).
That’s the type of talent that it takes to win the SEC West. And LSU has it. There’s absolutely no reason to think that Auburn will finish above LSU in the SEC West in 2020.
LSU has all the motivation they need to once again take the college football world by storm.
