LSU Football: Ed Orgeron’s top 5 wins as Tigers’ head coach
By Zach Ragan
LSU 17 Florida 16 — October 7, 2017
The 2017 season didn’t get off to a good start for LSU.
After season-opening wins against BYU and Chattanooga, the Tigers, who were ranked No. 12, went on the road and lost 37-7 to unranked Mississippi State.
Things got worse from there.
LSU managed to beat Syracuse at home 35-26.
And then the Troy game happened.
The Tigers lost 24-21 to Troy. In Baton Rouge. At night.
As you can imagine, the reaction to the loss was…..not good.
Remember this infamous Dan Wolken tweet?
There were some serious doubts surrounding Coach O after the embarrassing loss to Troy.
That’s what made the matchup against Florida the following week so important.
If LSU had lost to the Gators, it could’ve sent the program into tailspin.
However, the Tigers were able to go to Gainesville and beat No. 21 Florida. The win restored some confidence in the program. The Tigers went on to win six of their next eight games, with the only losses coming against No. 1 Alabama and No. 14 Notre Dame (in the Citrus Bowl).
Of all the wins in Coach O’s career at LSU, the win against Florida in 2017 could be the most important.
