The trait that will guarantee Joe Burrow is a superstar in the NFL
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow is set to be the Cincinnati Bengals’ starter in 2020.
When the Cincinnati Bengals selected LSU football‘s Joe Burrow with the first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, there was little doubt he’d begin the season as the starter.
In late April, when Cincinnati released Andy Dalton, it was confirmed that the Bengals are Burrow’s team.
Going with a rookie starting quarterback isn’t always a wise idea. It’s a trial by fire type of situation.
Some rookies thrive, while others struggle massively.
In Burrow’s case, most folks expect him to thrive — especially Burrow himself.
Joe Burrow might be the most confident player in the NFL
At this point, it’s well established that Burrow is an extremely confident player.
But the same could be said about a lot of players in the NFL. It’s hard to become a professional athlete if there isn’t a substanial amount of confidence present.
The confidence Burrow possesses, though, is almost unnatural.
Earlier this week, Burrow was asked by reporters how he felt about the offense.
“I feel very comfortable with the offense right now. I feel comfortable with my guys. I think we’re going to be pretty good on offense. I’m excited more so than nervous, I would say,” replied Burrow (via The Athletic’s Jay Morrison).
In a follow-up question, Burrow was asked if he was surprised that he wasn’t nervous.
Burrow’s response?
“Absolutely not. You ever heard anything else about me being nervous?”
(That was said with a chuckle, by the way.)
It’s human nature to be nervous at a new job or in a new situation. Burrow, however, isn’t nervous at all. He has the demeanor of a seasoned vet, despite the fact he’s never played a down in the NFL.
There’s going to be rough times for the rookie (Burrow’s comments this week came after a not-so-great practice for the offense). But Burrow’s confidence is going to allow him to never doubt himself. Whatever is thrown at him, Burrow is going to have the confidence that he can rise above it and be great (and make his team great).
Which is why he’s going to be a superstar in the NFL.
