LSU Football: Tigers are one of the favorites to land elite 2022 5-star CB
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the programs to beat for an elite 2022 cornerback.
2022 five-star cornerback Denver Harris is one of the most highly sought after recruits in the nation and LSU football is firmly in the mix to land him.
In fact, Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman suggested this week that the battle for Harris will be between the Tigers and Texas.
“LSU and Texas are the top two and those programs seem to be battling it out for his services,” wrote Spiegelman.
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Florida, among many others, have also offered Harris.
Landing Harris would be huge for LSU football
Harris, 6-foot-1/180 lbs from Houston, TX (North Shore), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 player in the state of Texas and the No. 5 cornerback in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 12 overall 2022 recruit in the nation.
247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks says Harris is a “tall, long cornerback prospect with elite frame potential relative to the position” with “size already gives opposing wideouts problems”.
Brooks also notes that Harris is an “elite corner prospect among the nation’s top prospects at the position in 2022” and he “projects to high-major level with long-term early-round NFL Draft potential”.
The NFL comparison for Harris, according to Brooks, is former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah, who was selected by the Detroit Lions with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft (definitely a good player to be compared to).
LSU currently has seven players committed to its 2022 recruiting class, including four-star cornerback Khamauri Rogers.
With The Tigers’ reputation of being “DBU”, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see them land Harris over the Longhorns.
