3. LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron has proved he can hire the best assistants

Part of leading a great football program is hiring great people.

And no one does that quite like Coach O.

Orgeron has surrounded himself with great assistants. He knows what he’s looking for in an assistant. That’s why he was able to discover a hidden gem in Joe Brady.

But great assistants rarely stay assistants for long. Other programs are always looking for coaching talent.

Just this past offseason, LSU lost defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to Baylor. The Tigers also lost passing game coordinator Joe Brady to the NFL (he’s now the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers).

Those losses definitely hurt LSU. But Coach O immediately replaced them with quality coaches. Bo Pelini was hired as the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator, and Scott Linehan (a former NFL head coach) was hired as the team’s new passing game coordinator.

Good coaches want to work for Orgeron. He’ll continue to make great hires that help the program progress forward.
