Analyst suggests LSU football has one of nation’s most interesting position battles

Does LSU football have one of the most interesting quarterback battles in the nation?
At least one national analyst believes that’s the case.
Chris Hummer, who covers college football for 247Sports, recently took a dive into the nation’s “quarterback battles to watch this spring”.
And he had an interesting take on the quarterback battle in Baton Rouge.
Who will start for LSU football in 2021?
Before we get to Hummer’s comments, I have to point out some thoughts here.
In no way do I see the LSU quarterback battle as interesting. This is Myles Brennan’s job. He was spectacular before his early-season injury in 2020. He has plenty of experience. And he’s one of the Tigers’ best team leaders.
Brennan is the undisputed QB1 in my book.
But I guess not everyone sees it that way.
“I’d argue this is the most fascinating QB battle nationally outside of Ann Arbor (Michigan),” said Hummer of the Tigers’ quarterback battle.
“This is a competition, largely because of what (Max) Johnson did late last season,” added Hummer.
Johnson, who was a true freshman last season, was solid in LSU’s upset win over Florida. And he was terrific against Ole Miss, throwing for 425 yards and three touchdowns.
But is that enough to unseat a redshirt senior as the starting quarterback?
I don’t think so. Especially not Brennan, who was on a historic pace before his injury.
I’m sure Ed Orgeron will play up this “battle” a bit during spring practice. And I have no doubt that a starter won’t be named until late in the spring at the earliest — after all, competition breeds success.
But this is Brennan’s team. Everyone knows it.
Everyone, that is, but Chris Hummer.
