LSU Football: There might be a new leader in the race for Arch Manning
By Zach Ragan
LSU Football is very much in the race to land 2023 five-star quarterback Arch Manning.
That’s despite a recent report that suggested Manning has a top four that doesn’t include LSU.
(That report suggests a top four of Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas.)
Manning has only ruled out one major program — Clemson — so as far as we know LSU is still a strong contender to land the coveted quarterback (playing close to home will surely be a factor that works in LSU’s favor).
However, while we think LSU is a contender, we don’t think they’re the leaders for Manning.
Texas is making a move that could make them the team to beat for Arch Manning
Texas is reportedly making a move that could make the Longhorns the team to beat in this recruiting battle.
According to 247Sports, there’s a “good chance” Texas is hiring former Duke head coach David Cutcliffe to serve in an off-field role.
So why is this a big deal?
The Manning family is EXTREMELY close with Cutcliffe. He coached Peyton, Arch’s uncle, at Tennessee (Cutcliffe was the Vols’ offensive coordinator when Peyton was there). Then he was the head coach at Ole Miss when Eli (Arch’s other uncle) was in Oxford.
Peyton and Eli used to go to Duke every offseason to work out with Cutcliffe — that’s how much they trusted him (that’s where Peyton trained while recovering from his neck surgery that almost ended his career).
Archie Manning, Arch’s grandfather, has spoken highly about Cutcliffe on many occasions.
Cutcliffe is essentially family to the Mannings. And I think his presence could absolutely catapult the Longhorns to the front of Arch’s recruitment.
