Former LSU Tigers star finds a new home in day one of NFL free agency

Former LSU Tigers football standout Patrick Peterson found a new home on the opening day of NFL free agency. Here’s where the LSU alumnus will play in 2023.

Former LSU Tigers cornerback Patrick Peterson landed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on day one of NFL free agency. He signed a 2-year, $14 million deal with $5.85 million guaranteed.
Patrick Peterson is one of the most decorated players in LSU history. In three seasons with the Tigers, Peterson tallied 135 tackles, seven interceptions, and one touchdown.

Peterson’s 2010 season was one of the greatest single-season performances in college football history. He hauled seven interceptions in 13 games with the LSU Tigers and handled kick and punt return duties. He also averaged 29.1 YPR on kickoffs and 16.1 YPR on punts with two touchdowns.

Patrick Peterson is one of the most decorated players in LSU history.

In 2010, Peterson won the Bednarik and Jim Thorpe awards, awarded to the best defensive player and best defensive back, respectively. Peterson also earned All-American team honors as a cornerback and return specialist.

Coming out of LSU, Patrick Peterson was among the most sought-after prospects in the 2011 NFL Draft. Thus, he was the first defensive back taken off the board, landing with the Arizona Cardinals, who selected him fifth overall.

The former LSU Tigers star is entering his thirteenth season in the NFL, spending his first ten seasons with the Cardinals. He posted 28 interceptions, 91 passes defended, and 487 tackles with the Cardinals.

After the 2020 season, Peterson signed a 1-year deal worth 10 million dollars with the Minnesota Vikings. He would play his way into another 1-year contract with Minnesota in 2022, where he had one of his best seasons as a pro.

Despite being 32 years old, Peterson appeared in all 17 games in 2022. He hauled in 5 interceptions, broke up 15 passes, and totaled 60 tackles in his 12th season. Peterson was the most consistent player on an otherwise poor defense.

Peterson was ranked the 3rd best corner and 28th best free agent overall in the 2023 class by Fox Sports.
