No. 12 – Payton Thorne

Year: Junior

Team: Auburn Tigers

2022 Passing Stats: 242 completions, 2,679 yards, 19 touchdowns

Payton Thorne was recently named the Auburn starting quarterback after competing with Robby Ashford during camp.

Thorne transferred to The Plains from Michigan State after serving as the Spartans’ starting signal-caller for two seasons. We doubt Thorne will produce world-beating stats at Auburn, but it seems his experience and passing efficiency won him the favor of head coach Hugh Freeze.

Conversely, what Freeze gains in Thorne’s experience, he loses with Ashford’s playmaking ability. Ashford is the most elusive QB, having rushed for 710 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

Auburn is also home to freshman Holden Geriner, a four-star prospect with the best arm talent on the roster.
