Hurricane Idalia is expected to make landfall in the southeast on Wednesday morning. Will the storm affect LSU’s Week 1 game vs. Florida State in Orlando?

LSU Football is heading to Orlando to play the Florida State Seminoles this Sunday in prime time. However, Hurricane Idalia is expected to reach central Florida ahead of time. As such, we wonder if the storm will negatively impact the Tigers’ Week 1 contest.

Currently, Hurricane Idalia is gaining steam from the hot waters in the Gulf of Mexico and heading toward the armpit of Florida, where the panhandle meets the peninsula. As such, the storm will bring vicious winds and torrential downpours to Florida.

Idalia’s path has shifted significantly and is projected far north of Orlando. That area is still likely to receive an uptick in rain over the coming days, but by Sunday, the forecast calls for a mostly sunny sky with a high of 90 and a low of 74 degrees. We expect a pleasant temperature in Camping World Stadium around the kick-off of LSU Football vs. Florida State.

We don’t think Hurricane Idalia will be a problem for the LSU Tigers. However, the same cannot be said for the Florida State Seminoles.

The path of Hurricane Idalia is nearly touching Tallahassee, Florida, on the map. Thus, we expect much rain and potential flooding to impact Florida State’s practice schedule. The Seminoles will probably be forced to practice more indoors this week.

Hurricanes wreaking havoc on schedules isn’t foreign to us. LSU Football fans will recall that Hurricane Matthew postponed the Tigers’ game vs. the Florida Gators in 2016. The storm’s threat pushed the contest from the first Saturday in October to November 19th.
