LSU Football vs. Mississippi State: Prediction, odds, spread, and where to watch for College Football Week 3
By John Fye
LSU Football travels to Mississippi State this weekend for their SEC opening game. Here’s a look at the game’s information, odds, and our prediction.
It’s déjà vu for LSU Football this weekend as the Tigers are 1-1 and begin conference play against the 2-0 Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Last season, LSU was 1-1 in their first SEC game against 2-0 Mississippi State. Moreover, the circumstances and vibes in Baton Rouge were similar to the present.
The Tigers are coming off a big win in Week 2, but few fans are willing to restore the optimism after beating up on Grambling. Indeed, the stench of an embarrassing Week 1 loss to Florida State remains in the air. But a road win over Mississippi State will restore much faith in the current state of Brian Kelly’s program.
It sounds silly to suggest that LSU Football fans are down on Kelly this early into his tenure. However, the hype surrounding the Tigers this offseason was the most we’ve experienced recently. Thus, a 45-24 drudging by the Seminoles sent many LSU fans into an emotional state that is likely a mixture of confusion, anger, sadness, and frustration.
Regardless, LSU Football finds itself in nearly the same situation as Kelly’s first season in command. And just like in 2022, a win over Mississippi State on Saturday will get the ball rolling toward another SEC West title.
Here are the odds, spread, and how to watch the LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Death Valley Voice’s prediction
We think that the game is eerily similar to last season in that both teams struggle to put up points early. Mississippi State has a solid defense that is stingy on third downs thus far this season. However, Arizona’s offense managed to move the ball and score points, especially late in the game. The Wildcats might’ve left Starkville with a win had they not turned the ball over five times.
The LSU Tigers are still figuring themselves out in many ways this season but remain the far more talented team. They aren’t immune to mistakes but will not turn the ball over like Arizona did. We also like the LSU interior defensive line to give Mississippi State’s run game fits.
LSU Football won’t play a perfect game, but they will exit Starkville with a gritty victory that disappoints some fans. Regardless, the win will show the Tigers can scrap with SEC foes and serve as a character-builder.
LSU wins 32-26 but doesn’t cover the spread.
