Where do the Week 4 polls rank LSU Football?
By John Fye
We think LSU Football made a huge statement with a lopsided win over Mississippi State in Week 3. Did the college football pollsters notice such?
LSU Football entered the season with the level of hype that aligns with competing for College Football Playoff contention. Such was lost after the Tigers fell apart in the second half of their Week 1 game vs. Florida State. As such, LSU dropped from No. 5 to 14 in the AP Top 25 poll.
A lot of what was expected from LSU as the fifth-ranked team was on display last Saturday. The Tigers topped 40 points on offense and absolutely smothered Mississippi State on defense. As such, we entered Sunday wondering if the polls would acknowledge LSU’s Week 3 performance by moving the Bayou Bengals back up the rankings.
Where does LSU Football rank in the Week 4 AP Top 25?
The Associated Press released their Top 25 rankings for college football Week 4. The LSU Tigers are ranked No. 12, up two spots from last week.
We think the Tigers are a top-10 team, but giddy to see them move up nonetheless. Utah (11), Oregon (10), and Notre Dame (9) are ranked ahead of LSU. Conversely, our adversaries in Tuscaloosa moved in to opposite direction.
Alabama dropped from No. 10 to 13 after playing one of the worst games of Nick Saban’s era vs. South Florida.
Where does LSU Football rank in the Week 4 Coaches Poll?
The most recent update to the USA Today Coaches Poll is somewhat infuriating. The same teams appear near LSU Football in the coaches poll, but the Tigers are ranked No. 13, one spot behind Alabama.
Yes, college football coaches believe Alabama is better than LSU ahead of Week 4.
The coaches have ranked the Crimson Tide above the Tigers all season, but such is absurd following both team’s Week 3 performances. We don’t think there’s any question that LSU’s performance in Starkville proves they’re the best team in the SEC West. Meanwhile, Alabama has no quarterback, a poor offensive line, and a one-dimensional playbook.
Despite our gripes, LSU Football is right where they need to be, in control of their destiny. They’ll continue moving up both polls with each win and the Florida State loss further in the rearview.
LSU’s Week 4 opponent, Arkansas, is not ranked in either poll. The Razorbacks lost a home game to BYU on Saturday.
