The first round of the NFL Draft came and went and despite a ton of late buzz, LSU tight end Mason Taylor didn't end up making his way into the back end of the first round. While Mason Taylor wasn't a first round pick, he's one of the top prospects available at the top of the second round and should hear his name called rather early. Heading into the second day of the NFL Draft, the following teams stand out as ideal landing spots for Mason Taylor.
New York Jets
The New York Jets used their first round pick to add protection for Justin Fields taking Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou. The Jets now need to add weapons for Justin Fields and their biggest need is at tight end after losing Tyler Conklin in free agency. Mason Taylor would give the team an upgrade over Jeremy Ruckert who has 52 career catches while helping open holes for Breece Hall in the rushing attack.
New England Patriots
The Patriots already dipped into LSU's talent pool in the first round of the draft taking Will Campbell with the 4th overall pick. The New England Patriots can ease Campbell into the NFL by taking his long time teammate Mason Taylor. The Patriots relied heavily on their tight ends in 2024 but, as Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry continue to age the team should get a tight end on Drake Maye's timeline. Taylor can come in and learn behind two solid veterans while giving the team some impact early on.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks kicked off a full scale rebuild this offseason by tearing apart their offense ridding the roster of most of its weapons. As the team looks to build around Sam Darnold, the team will need to draft a more impactful tight end than Noah Fant. Mason Taylor is the caliber of tight end the team could eye as he's got the ability to impact the game as a blocker while he can compliment the team's wide receiver core with his expanded route tree.
Los Angeles Rams
In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams tried to trade up to acquire Brock Bowers but, fell short. As Sean McVay looks to find a young tight end to pair with Matt Stafford, Mason Taylor may be the ideal fit. Taylor's ability as a blocker can spring a ton of plays for Kyren Williams while he can be a massive weapon in the passing attack.
Miami Dolphins
In the first round of the draft, the Miami Dolphins addressed one of their biggest needs drafting defensive tackle Kenneth Grant. As the team looks to get younger and cheaper, Mason Taylor would be a solid selection for the team. Tight End Jonnu Smith is in the final year of his contract and the team likely won't be able to keep him. Jason Taylor was a Hall of Famer for the Dolphins and Mason could be an exciting piece in Mike McDaniel's offense.
