The LSU Tigers landed a huge commitment on Monday morning. After losing Bryce Underwood's commitment in November 2024, Brian Kelly and his staff have struggled to land quarterback commitments. But now, one of the top quarterbacks in the country for the 2027 class is staying in Louisiana.

Peyton Houston, a four-star QB from Shreveport, announced that he is committed to LSU. Houston chose LSU over other offers from Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, among others. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound QB is rated by 247Sports Composite as the No. 11 QB in the 2027 class.

Four-star QB Peyton Houston commits to LSU

Houston is the first LSU commitment for the 2027 class. Oklahoma was seen as the frontrunner for the last several months, but LSU has always been in the mix and came on strong in recent weeks. Houston was one of several high-profile recruits to be in Baton Rouge this past weekend as LSU defeated Florida 20-10 to move to 3-0. The visit proved to be effective, as Houston committed to LSU less than 48 hours later.

Houston is described by 247Sports Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks as an advanced natural passer with a quick delivery. Brooks also added that Houston excels when firing into short-to-intermediate windows and is one of the more pure throwers in recent years and sets an exceptionally high floor.

Last season as a sophomore at Evangel Christian Academy, Houston threw for a Class 5A record 4,480 yards to go along with 38 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He posted a strong completion percentage of 70% by completing 310 of his 443 pass attempts. He is also a talented runner, rushing for 690 yards and seven touchdowns. For his efforts, Houston earned first-team all-district honors and was selected as LSWA first-team all-state.

It's a big get for Brian Kelly and company, who begin building their 2027 class with a bang. Other quarterbacks in the 2027 class with offers from LSU are Elijah Haven, Colton Nussmeier, and Trent Seaborn.
