As LSU entered the offseason it appeared that the entire coaching staff would be back until Slade Nagle took the offensive coordinator job at Houston reuniting with Willie Fritz. Slade Nagle departing left two openings as he was Brian Kelly's Tight Ends coach and the Special Teams Coach. In addition to losing Slade Nagle, LSU has lost or moved on from several analysts this offseason losing a few coaches who helped with special teams.
The Tigers likely needed to add a Special Teams Coach whether Slade Nagle left of not as the unit was a disaster this season. Whether it was bad snaps, bad holds, blocked kicks, missed kicks, bad punts, or big returns allowed LSU had it all. The one bright spot was the return game as Zavion Thomas was a spark while Aaron Anderson's lone kick return went 100 yards for a touchdown.
The Tigers appear to have found their answer on special teams as LSU will hire Grambling State's Aman Anand as Football Scoop broke the news
Anand spent one season at Grambling State before that he Coached Special Teams at Texas Southern where his units ranked Top 25 in Kick and Punt Returns. Anand has also spent time as an Assistant Special Teams coordinator at Baylor and Penn State. He also spent time in roles as a student assistant or graduate assistant at Old Dominion, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Northern Arizona, Utah State, and Memphis.
It's unclear whether he'll be the Special Teams Coordinator or an Analyst for the Tigers but, addressing Special Teams was important. Anand comes in an inherits a ton of great pieces with elite returners in Barion Brown, Aaron Anderson, and Zavion Thomas. The Tigers also bring back Punter Peyton Todd and brought in elite transfer Punter Grant Chadwick. LSU has one of the best Kick Off Specialists in Aeron Burrell and a place kicker in Damian Ramos.
